Want to improve your clinical reasoning when treating patients with lower extremity injuries? If so, this is the course for you! This lower extremity course is designed to improve both clinical decision making and hands-on technical skills. Attendees will participate in a dynamic discussion of the literature related to manual therapy of the lower extremity. Additionally, a heavy emphasis will be placed on a variety of manual techniques to manage dysfunction of the hip, knee and ankle regions along with complimentary exercise selections. Techniques will include thrust, and non-thrust (Maitland, Mulligan and Muscle Energy Techniques). This course will have an excellent instructor/participant ratio and will be led by the faculty of the United States Air Force Tactical Sports & OMPT Fellowship. This course meets Colorado standards for 8 hours of Category I Professional Development Activity. Schedule: 8:00 - Introductions 8:15 - How does Manual Therapy work? 8:45 – Knee Discussion of the evidence 9:15 - Knee clearing & lab 10:00 - Break 10:15 – Knee Mobilizations Lab 11:00 – Regional Interdependence 11:30 – Lumbar Spine Manipulations 12:00 – Lunch 13:00 – Round Robin Practice 13:30 – Hip Discussion of the Evidence 14:00 – Hip Mobilization Lab 14:45 – Break 15:00 – Ankle Discussion of the Evidence 15:30 – Ankle Mobilization Lab 16:15 – Open Practice 16:45 – Q & A and post-test 17:00 - Adjourn
Target audience: PTs, 2nd and 3rd year PT students Objectives for participants: * Report best evidence based practices for the treatment of lower extremity conditions using manual therapies. * Demonstrate several manipulative techniques for the treatment of various lower extremity impairments. * Perform manual therapy and exercise interventions based on case scenarios. * Understand the concepts and principles of regional interdependence in treatment of lower extremity musculoskeletal conditions.
