Dr. Laura Sage, PT, DPT, MEd

Dr. Sage is running for Delegate at Large in the 2023 APTA Colorado Elections.

I look forward to the chance once again to serve as delegate-at-large for the CO APTA Chapter. I attended the National conference with our CO delegation in 2014. Since then I have left patient care (acute care, geriatrics & wound care) to work fulltime in education at Pima Medical Institute, as a PTA clinical director, program director, and now in the regulatory department. One of my responsibilities currently is as the co-chair of the JEDI (justice, equity, diversity & inclusion) committee. My career at Pima included two years in California. It was interesting to see how their chapter operates, however, it is great to be back in Colorado, particularly when I learned about the new DEI committee in our chapter. Also, I have served our chapter in the Government Affairs committee, working on the previous state Practice Act Sunset, and am getting ready to do so again in the next legislative session! Nationally, I serve for a second time as a CAPTE commissioner, on the PTA panel (2008-2012, 2022-present). This entails two meetings a year, (spring & fall) which would not interfere with the monthly meetings and summer house of delegates. I feel that my experience here in CO for 20+ years, as well as time spent in other states (I worked in NY & MA earlier in my career, in acute care & home care settings), along with national PT/PTA education issues makes me a strong candidate. Thank you for considering me for the director-at-large position.

Identify and describe current or previous leadership positions and/or work experiences that make you qualified for this position:
At Longmont United Hospital I was the lead PT for 4 years. During my time at Pima Medical Institute, I have been the PTA clinical director (in Denver), PTA program director (in San Marcos, CA), and now in the regulatory department. One of my responsibilities currently is as the co-chair of the JEDI (justice, equity, diversity & inclusion) committee. I have served our chapter in the Government Affairs committee, working on the previous state Practice Act Sunset, and am getting ready to do so again in the next legislative session. Currently I am a CAPTE commissioner, on the PTA panel (2008-2012, 2022-present). This entails two meetings a year, where I along with other commissioners make accreditation decisions after reviewing comprehensive reports related to curriculum and management of PTA programs around the country.

What strengths do you bring to the Colorado Chapter and what strengths would you bring to the position you are running for?
According to "Strength Finders", one of my super powers is WOO, "winning others over". I enjoy connecting with people, & finding common ground. I am an extrovert who is energized when working with others.

What are weaknesses of the Colorado Chapter and what improvements would you like to make?
The chapter may be able to improve with the on-going challenge of connecting with folks who are not APTA members.
