NE District Event - April 6: Understanding Central Sensitization and the Neuroimmune System to Optimize Patient Recovery 

This course is designed for all settings of practice across the lifespan to maximize patient recovery through facilitating the body’s natural healing tools.  This applies to those with chronic pain/central sensitization, persons with auto immune or neurological disorders (diabetes, thyroid, brain injury, MS) and those with delayed healing from musculoskeletal injuries or surgeries.  The techniques and information presented are not only for those with long term illness and dysfunction,  but to prevent patients from entering into this realm by understanding the risk factors and potential for a person with an acute episode to become chronic and how to change this course.

About the presenters:

LCDR Selena Bobula is a Physical Therapist and Officer in the US Public Health Service.  She earned her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of Wisconsin – Madison and is a board certified specialist in Neurologic and Orthopaedic Physical Therapy.  She has 9 years of federal experience working with the US Army and the Indian Health Service.  She is the Chief Physical Therapist at the EACH Warrior Recovery Center.  Her areas of interest are vestibular rehabilitation, chronic pain management, and she is working towards certification in Tai Chi Fundamentals.

Dr. Dyanna Haley-Rezac is a co-owner of Rezac & Associates Physical Therapy since 2009.  She specializing in multiple trauma, central sensitization and complex patients from and ortho-neuro-vestibular perspective.   Her approach is a biopsychosocial model to treating patients utilizing optimal recovery and interacting collaboratively with other complimentary medical professionals to form a comprehensive team approach to patient care.  Prior military 5 years in the United States Marine Corps.

•Dyanna received her Doctor of Physical Therapy from Slippery Rock University in 2001 and became a Board Certified in Orthopedic Specialist (OCS) in 2007, recertified in 2017 as well as Board Certified Neurological Specialist (NCS) from APTA in 2016.  She completed her Fellowship in Manual Physical Therapy from Regis University in 2013.

•Additionally, Dyanna is a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist from NSCA, Certified Golf Fitness Instructor, Medical Professional Level 2 from Titleist and Certified Kinesiotaping Practioner.

•Dyanna is also an Affiliate Faculty at Regis University and very active with APTA as PDC co-chair, former SE District Chair and Secretary, House of Delegates representative.

Joseph Miller, PT, DSc, OCS, SCS  was raised in New Hampshire and Massachusetts.   He has been active in sports most of his life and participated in Semi-Professional Football and College DII Soccer.  He is also an avid hiker, runner, and ultra marathoner.   Dr. Miller spent 5 1/2 years in the United States Marine Corp after High School.  Dr. Miller received his Bachelor's degree in Exercise and Sports Science with a minor in Biology from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas in 2001.  Dr. Miller was accepted into the Army-Baylor Physical Therapy Program and joined the United States Army in 2001.  He graduated in 2003 with his Master of Science in Physical Therapy.  In 2006, he received his transitional Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Temple University.   He attended the Army-Baylor Doctoral and Residency Program in Orthopedic and Sports Rehabilitation at the United States Military Academy.  He graduated in 2011 with his Doctor of Science in Orthopedic and Sports Rehabilitation as well as completed the American Physical Therapy Association Residency Program in Sports Rehabilitation.  Dr. Miller retired in 2016 after 20+ years in the military.  

Dr.  Miller holds clinical specialties from the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialists in both Orthopedic and Sports Rehabilitation.  Additionally, he is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialists.  Dr. Miller is Functional Movement Systems Level I certified, Selective Functional Movement Assessment Certified and Advanced, Full Integrative Dry Needling Certified, a Kinesiotape Certified Practitioner, Graston Certified, and has over 250 hours of continuing education in various manual therapy techniques.  Dr. Miller is certified in TRX Sports Medicine and the Rip Trainer.   Other skills include running and weight-lifting form assessment.
